A permanent full-time technician position has become available due to the retirement of a long-serving staff member. In this role you will provide technical support for both our research and teaching programmes within the School of Viticulture and Wine Science.
Key tasks will include the preparation of resources and equipment for student laboratory practicals, with a particular emphasis on microbiology; carrying out laboratory analyses, allied testing and the development of new analytical methods as required for research projects; and maintaining and developing the library of microbial cultures stored in the laboratory.
Essential requirements for this role include:
• Proficiency in the use of advanced analytical laboratory equipment including HPLC, GC and spectrophotometers
• A practical and theoretical scientific background in microbiology and at least one other scientific area
• Experience in research (or assistance in research) in food, wine or plant science or related disciplines
